There’s some organizational news to share today. Free the Slaves would like to thank Chairman Stephen Maher and Board Member Bryn Freedman for their dedicated service as members of the board of directors. Maher and Freedman announced their departure from the board during its quarterly meeting yesterday. The board accepted their resignations with appreciation for their contributions to the organization.

The board has unanimously elected Jane Covey as its new chair.

Covey retired in 2006 from a distinguished career in international development, focusing on the emergence and growth of civil society organizations in developing countries. In the early 1980s, she co-founded and served as executive director of The Institute for Development Research (IDR). This Boston-based research and education nonprofit became an internationally recognized pioneer in generating theoretical and organizational development practices to strengthen the civil society sector in developing countries. Her diverse professional background also includes healthcare in U.S. urban communities and management consultation to nonprofit organizations, government and business.

The board affirmed that it will proceed with its board development plans in line with the goals and mission of Free the Slaves. As the organization enters its second decade under the inspired leadership of its new executive director, we continue to dedicate ourselves to eradicating global slavery.

Can you help end the conditions that cause modern slavery?
